ABA Supports Internet Tax

The American Booksellers Association is urging their members to support a sales tax on online book sales. Out-of-state online retailers are enticing their customers away with tax-free purchases, and this “sales tax shortfall will grow worse each year as online shopping grows.” But the Book Patrol dude doesn’t think an online tax is the answer.

Same old story - private corporations that generally love free markets are always so eager to call on government intervention, authoritarian control, when they fail to move with the times. As history has taught us, the result is often a mess. Protectionism is usually not a good incitement for financial policy.
