Angels and Quilt Pieces. . .Our Journey with a Katrina Family

The story of one Katrina family, their evacuation, their struggle to relocate and their hopes and dreams. The story is told through the eyes of their "Sponsors", who have been with them every step of the way, with thanks to all the "Angels" who gave the family "pieces for their quilts".

Kudos to those who help those in need! Everyone should give a little more to aid, in their own country or elsewhere, it's needed!

However, the way the US can't even provide adequate protection for the victims of Katrina baffles me... I watched the hugely annoying show Home Makeover Extreme Edition have its team fix a fire station in a Katrina-strucken town since apparently there are no federal funds to repair infrastructure and provide shelter, fire protection or medical services. Seriously, what happened to all that disaster relief money???

Thanks Jakob! Yes, we have felt the same way. I think there are many politicians and officials who are much richer! We watched the HBO special by Spike Lee with Turk and it was even more intresting because he knew so many of the people who were featured. Unfortunately the honest ones who really needed the help were left in the cold. We had to jump through a lot of hoops to get this family what FEMA said they qualified for. It is quite a story - hope you will all read it!

It makes me so angry that these people have to go through this. Bloody red tape. It shouldn't matter that Turk wasn't receiving social assistance prior to the disaster...he and his family need help now! It's preposterous that they aren't being looked after...that everyone isn't being looked after. And in such a rich country...for shame!

Excuse the rant, please, but it makes my blood pressure rise. Peace, light and strength to you all. You're doing a wonderful thing.

Now I have to find out, did Canada do anything to help the relief effort? If not, then shame on us, too.

Thank you for your thoughts mwilliams!
We have been angry and ranted many times - it is perfectly ok! Actually, I think Canada played a very big role, particularly during the evacuation. Unfortunately, some were turned away or their attempts to help were thwarted by our government. You can keep up with the family and progress at www.eagleswingspublications.com
