The Happy Endings Foundation is concerned about children’s reading material. Children, they say, should read only books with happy endings, and that makes it okay to burn books that have depressing content. The group is planning a series of ‘bad book bonfires’ and are urging librarians to remove such books from the shelves. Unbelievable.

Kid's love scary stories, even those with "bad" endings!
Hello A Series of Unfortunate Events! Hello Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when everyone thought Harry was gonna bite it!

Yep, loved them myself. Apparently Lemony Snicket's near the top of the black list. Shame.

OMG how daft are these folk.
even as a rug rat I was a sucker for the tear jerker.
We can't raise kids who think life is all song and sunshine. Life can and should be that but it's also cruel and unfair. Our kids will be our future politicians and leaders and as such they need to get a dose of realism. Are these people retarded or something???
Speaking of a cruel world, this is a grim piece on Africa I just read:

Apparently this is a marketing hoax:

Unfortunately, it was all too believable. There's definitely a trend to over-protect children from books (and music, and the big scary outdoors, and pretty much everything else in life).
Yep, just discovered this. The whole thing stinks. It's a pretty elaborate hoax that deals with some serious issues. I think it's in pretty poor taste.
I think we can be forgiven for being taken in by this, considering the number of such stories/people out there that are serious about the subject.
