French Fear Loss of Cultural Heritage

France is in danger of losing its cultural heritage because students are shunning literature in favor of practical courses that will earn them more money. The move is on to revive students’ interest in the classics, but apparently literature is considered a subject for “no-hopers”, and the word ‘library’ now has negative connotations. Oh my.

Sad but true,
Last night I was chatting with my son 14 about his future, after he was horrified speaking to his father (a boiler maker) at work on the telephone and hearing the industry noises in the background, and knowing his dad was there for a 14 hour shift. He knows he doesn’t want to have to work that hard for his money.
I did not say to him,” well let’s get improving on your literature”, I said “well would you like flying lessons for Christmas so that you can have an edge for a better paying position doing something you enjoy.”

(To clarify the flying lessons he has been quite highly awarded in our local surf life saving club and has come to the attention to the higher ups in the state surf life saving association, although most are volunteer, the higher ups are primed from rookies usually and attract great pay with perks. I want him out of the water and into the air, but I’m a mum, and it looks a hell of a lot safer up there when the surfs nasty and these boys go in, lol, and I’m shark phobic.)

Pilot salaries are very high but it is also a very demanding, though rewarding, job if you're SAR (Search and Rescue) pilot. I've been told costs around 200,000 USD to get a helicopter pilot's license. Then you need to find a job. There are no guarantees what so ever so you need to be good unless you want to gamble.

Here they use a small single engine plane for regular patrols, lessons are more affordable, if he shows the intuitive and gets involved he can pick up sponsorship for air time.
He gets invitations now to their functions and things to represent the rookies and cadets, and knows the local crew.
The surf lifesaving clubs here treat him like the golden boy
He's not interested in the air anyway, lol, I offered him opportunity and he knocked it back. He’s got his eye on the ducky squads instead.
