There is plenty of blame to go around -- disengaged parents, uninterested publishing houses, distracting video games and teaching styles -- but not as many clear answers.

I would take this article more seriously if it didn't stomp on video games. Three of the reasons given for why boys don't read: disengaged parents, uninterested publishing houses, teaching styles. Those are human elements, where control lies with human decisions and choices and would have been fine, but they had to slide in a dig at alternate and valid forms of entertainment. Maybe these people will figure out how to solve these problems when they stop devaluing other media to make their points.
Good point bookninja, Im sure boys were not known as avid readers before the age of video games.
