Independent bookstores are refusing to stage signings and readings for authors whose websites and emails have a book purchase link to Amazon but not to Booksense. Amazon has had an active policy against their employees forming and joining unions for years. Jeff Bezos (founder of Amazon) is obviously a little, but successful, capitalist pig. The socialist side of me should be stronger and I should overthrow lazy convenience for strong-backed principle right actions such as buying from independent sites that respect their employees and the right to organize labor.
I found out today the telecom company I have my phone plan at is owned by a neo nazi. It reminded me of that story of Oprah taking that white supremacist's book of her book club list. You can't be oblivious to everything and I won't enrich a nazi.
