Could it be that there is altogether too much writing going on about books? Too much reading being done about reading? Is it possible that our enjoyment of books and reading is undermined by the multitude of reviews available to us?

I think what we see is people choosing reflexive over reflective types of media, as cognitive psychologist Donald Norman puts it. Books are usually reflective since you have to reflect over what you read and mentally assimilate it. Reflexive media doesn't, or rather, people don't reflect over it.
