We create art and furniture from them; we recycle them into mulch and fireplace starter; copyright laws restrict the perusal and acquisition of them; and modern day libraries have become recreational centers for anything but reading them. No respect, says Wienck.

As part of Chicago’s Columbia College's Manifest Urban Arts Festival, artists John LaFalce and Drew Luan Matott battered, deep-fried, sealed and signed dozens of ‘take-out’ books as a statement about America’s pursuit of unhealthy lifestyles and disregard for intellectualism. They’re actually pretty cool looking. Here’s a slideshow.
