Two years after announcing his retirement, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, master of magical realism, is on the verge of publishing another novel…this one a “novel of love,” according to those in the know. Look for the as yet untitled work to appear before the end of the year.

Iranian publishers sought to circumvent the censors by changing the title of Gabriel García Márquez's A Memory of My Melancholy Whores to Memories of My Melancholy Sweethearts. The ruse almost worked, and 5000 copies of the book were sold before the authorities caught on. Now, of course, there’s hell to pay.

Oprah Chooses Marquez

Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Love in the Time of Cholera has been chosen as Oprah’s next book club selection. She calls the book “the best love story ever” and hails Marquez as one of the world’s “greatest living literary giants”. Can’t disagree with her on that one.
