First Look offers readers the opportunity to read and review HarperCollins books prior to publication. Reviewers for each book are selected in random drawings. A minimum of 10 advanced reading copies of each book offered will be distributed to chosen readers along with instructions for filing the review.

PMA Tries to Stop Online Galley Sales

The sale of galleys and ARCs may harm the reputation of the publisher because they are often full of errors, and yet the online sale of them continues into the hundreds of thousands. The PMA is has taken measures to stop the practice by passing “a resolution urging all of its members to stop working with the online marketplaces that facilitate those sales”.

Amazon Launches Galley Program and Self-Publishing

If you’ve a history of writing ‘helpful’ reviews, you can now get advance copies of books from Amazon Vine through their new galley program. Amazon has also announced that its on-demand publishing services will now be free of charge and the self-published works can be printed and sold on the site. Cui bono?
