In a 2007 op-ed for In These Times, media critic Susan J. Douglas noted that there’s “a robust tradition in the Times Book Review to stereotype feminists as single-minded, humorless ideologues who march daily to some shrine where we all genuflect before images of Elizabeth Cady Stanton.”

Modern Love Breeds Book Deals

The New York Times’ Modern Love column may not exactly be highbrow literature, but if you want to get a novel out there, it wouldn’t do any harm to have a piece published here. Since 2004 no fewer than nine book deals have come from the Modern Love columns, which is a pretty good average in the publishing world.
