The biggest source of story/creative ideas come from the news on the Internets. There is so much strange stuff happening out there that it's hard for me to imagine a situation in which fiction can get much stranger than reality itself. Now, with so much social media that's so easily accessible, there is no shortage of access to such sources of ideas.
I also get a great deal of motivation to write from a private online social network with several dozen college friends. The discussions often trigger conversations that get my mind off and running. I then use parts of those conversations as springboards for my own writing, but I keep much of it to myself because my friends are probably too busy with their work lives to read my voluminous writing.
He overlooked several resources as to where ideas come from as it pertains to details but "life"is just the big part part of it and the 'things that happen' just narrow down the field.
One is the immortal words of "What If" (aka brainstorm)- I get lots of ideas from that. I just invoke it and it works. Sometimes it doesn't.
From dreams, too. Several dreams that were so vivid I remembered them like a scene in a movie, wound up becoming scenes in my current storyline. I even "met" a character for the first time - IN a dream, though I did not make him up yet. Other dreams that didn't feel like my subconscious was working on for this story - I'd archive for another
The biggest source for me - is my own over active imagination. I refer sometimes to online resources for detailing and references to enhance whatever it may be.
Writer's high - ahhh yea :-) heehee. That's another area where more ideas begin to fly out. (that can turn into a dilemma sometimes.
I suppose we could have used the title 'not safe for anyone' many times already, but I thought it would be especially pertinent here because in this show Richard and Hans illustrate the many situations in which the C-word is perfectly appropriate.
