Somewhere in the back woods of southern West Virginia is a small community known as Odd. There, one could find a very sad and lissless, but mostly sad little boy named Teardrop. Sitting all alone on an old tree stump, Teardrop awaits the only friends; a cute and energetic squirrel and a very old but seemingly wise turtle known to him as Squirt and Urtle, whom eccept him just as he is. Teardrop now 6years old suffers from a rare form of depression that doesn't allow him to ever laugh or even smile no matter what he does or where he goes and as sad as he is, Teardrop is unable to shed a single tear due to being born with sealed tear ducts. On this day Teardrop starts his first day of school in the first grade. Once Teardrop's lonely plight is discovered by his fellow classmates, a unrelentless attack of teasing begins; " Teardrop can't laugh! Teardrop can't smile! Teardrop can't cry! " At days end, Teardrop returns home sadder than ever before only to return to the old stump in the woods behind his home. Concerned for his well being, Teardrop's mother decides to try an experimental drug suggested by the Teardrop's doctor as a last resort, but was warned that it may cause Teardrop to have some unsettling dreams and so that evening in a warm cup of milk Teardrop is given the medicine. Upon following asleep, Teardrop reawakens to find himself sitting in the woods on his usual stump, but instead of squirt and urtle coming out to visit him a strange animal, with the head and tail of a squirrel and the shell and legs of a turtle appears and Teardrop ask, " Who are you? " and to his surprise the new animal spoke, " I am Squirtle; Who are you? " " My name is Teardrop, but animals can't talk! " " I'm not a animal, I'm a Scranimal." " Scranimal? What is a Scranimal?" " All Oddles know that Scranimals are a mixture of two or more animals like me. As you can see I'm half squirrel and half turtle." " Who are the Oddles? " " Everyone knows that the people who live in Odd are known as Oddles like yourself." At that very moment , Teardrop realizes he is no longer home, but in a strange new land that is uncanningly familiar. " You don't seem to be well little boy; let me take you to see Dr. Say- Ahh." " Dr. Say-Ahh? Who is that? " " You mean you never met Dr. Say-Ahh, the only doctor in all of Odd? We better leave right away, your worse off than I thought. " And so after climbing into Squirtle's convertible shell, they soon arrive at Dr. Say - Ahh's medicine bag shaped home. Upon their arrival, Dr. Say-Ahh removes one of his ears from his head and places it against Teardrop's tiny chest and utters, " My dear ear tell me what do you hear?" Squirtle quickly asks, " Is it bad? " " Perhaps yes, yet possibley no, I must take xrays to be in the know." With just a couple of winks and three speedy blinks of his magnified eyelids, Dr. Say-Ahh utters," Peek to seek or scan for a plan, just show me eyes what is wrong with this little man." Once again and somewhat nervous Squirtle asks," Is it serious?" " It appears that a chain surrounds this young one's heart held together by a combination lock and not numbers, yet only a special group of words or phrase spoken in Teardrop's presence will cause the lock to open. I must tell you the worst, that without these words or phrase, in time his heart will surely burst." Very concerned for Teardrop's ensueing fate, Squirtle inquires, " Who would know such words or phrases? You must go to see King Odd, for only he may know who or how." And so once again Teardrop are back on the road head to see the king, yet run into other Scranimals, Oddles and danger upon the way.

239natalie: You should post a link to your story, not post the story itself here. It's called social bookmarking. We don't have a forum for stories yet. Until we do, please publish the story elsewhere and link to it. It's easy to get a blog to post stuff like short stories in. Go to blogspot.com or wordpress.com to get a free blog of your own. You can also create your own wiki or just a Google Docs text document which is shared with the public.
Once you have posted your story there, copy the URL (the Internet address) of that page and submit it here.
Yeah it's no big of a deal. Getting a blog these days is so easy though. Perhaps there should be instructions on the submit page explaining these things.
I suppose we could have used the title 'not safe for anyone' many times already, but I thought it would be especially pertinent here because in this show Richard and Hans illustrate the many situations in which the C-word is perfectly appropriate.
Oh, I like this one! Word up!

well at least she chose the author promo category. Some authors try to get away with posting as 'in the news'
